Tenure Track position for a Computer Vision Research Scientist at Bruno Kessler Foundation, Centre for Digital Industry

Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) is a private research institution devoted to excellence in research in numerous disciplines and designated to the role of keeping the Autonomous Province of Trento in the mainstream of European and international research. Each research area is assigned to a specific research centre, of which there are eleven totals. The Digital Industry Center is one of the Centers of FBK. It focuses its research on digital technologies for the various domains in industry (e.g., manufacturing, aerospace, railway, automotive, energy, agriculture, manufacturing) by creating applications for critical systems, adaptive and autonomous systems, advanced perception, diagnostics, quality control, and prediction systems. Further research areas include precision farming, robotics, metrology, cultural heritage, and geomatics.
The Technologies of Vision (TeV) research unit conducts research in the fields of Computer Vision, Deep Learning, and Robotic Perception. TeV focuses on developing techniques for 2D and 3D scene understanding, including classification, detection, segmentation, tracking, foundation models, large multimodal models, and neural rendering. Its research has applications in various domains:

  • Manufacturing: quality control, robotic manipulation, 3D scene understanding.
  • Agritech: drone imaging, 3D reconstruction, and segmentation.
  • Security: document analysis and verification.
  • Automation: visual language assistants, embedded reasoning.

Job Description

The purpose of FBK’s Tenure Track program is to offer high-level professionals a structured career path toward becoming tenured researchers who contribute to the organization’s long-term strategy.
Within this program, FBK is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated researcher for a position in the TeV Unit of the Digital Industry Center.
The successful candidate will participate in European, national, and industrial projects focused on a broad range of computational imaging problems, contributing to management, research, and technology transfer activities.
The candidate is expected to support the Head of Unit in exploring, designing, implementing, and consolidating research and funding strategies related to computer vision and its applications. Additionally, the candidate will proactively contribute to the dissemination of research outcomes within both the computer vision scientific community and to broader audiences. Responsibilities also include the supervision or co-supervision of junior researchers, PhD students, and interns.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Vision and Deep Learning.
  • Expertise in 3D scene understanding, point cloud processing, and vision-language models.
  • Proven publication record in top-tier journals and conferences (e.g., TPAMI, IJCV, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, etc.).
  • Strong mathematical and programming skills.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Demonstrated ability to present research results at international scientific conferences.

Additional Requirements

  • Strong collaborative attitude and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent self-organization and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Experience in preparing and managing research and industrial project proposals.
  • Experience working on projects with national and international partners.
  • Experience in science communication and outreach activities at public venues.

Employment

Type of contract: Tenure Track position leading to an FBK 3rd Level Researcher (R3) permanent contract.
Duration: The duration of the Tenure Track contract will be determined by the Committee based on the assigned KPIs (at least one year, which may be reduced in accordance with the Committee assessment on the candidate's abilities and skills). If the final assessment of the Tenure Track experience is positive, the selected candidate for the tenure track position will be offered a permanent R3 contract.
Working hours: full time (38 h per week).
Gross annual salary: 44.500 € (plus objectives achievement bonus).
Start date: May 2026
