FBK is looking for an Innovation Service Specialist for the Digital Industry Centre; this position is partially funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR)

 

Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) is a private research institution devoted to excellence in research in numerous disciplines and designated to the role of keeping the Autonomous Province of Trento in the mainstream of European and international research. Each research area is assigned to a specific research Centre, of which there are twelve totals. Workplace Description

The FBK Center for Digital Industry, led by Alessandro Cimatti, focuses its research on digital technologies for industry domains (e.g., aerospace, railway, automotive, energy, agriculture, manufacturing, etc.) by creating applications for critical systems, adaptive and autonomous systems, advanced perception, diagnostics and prediction systems. It is involved in multiple European research projects and collaborates with several institutions and multinational companies on strategic projects with a high innovation content. The Center has a large experience in publicly funded projects at the regional, national and European level. More than 15 projects funded under European funding programmes (mostly H2020 and HEurope) are now active at the Center as well as two new initiatives (AgriFood TEF and AI-MATTERS) dedicated to the implementation and management of AI Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEF). One of these initiatives is coordinated by FBK and is devoted to the validation and testing of AI- and/or Robotics- based products and services for the Agrifood primary production sector (more information available here www.agrifoodtef.eu). AI TEFs make available their validation services both via physical (open field as well as controlled environments used in real-life conditions) and virtual facilities (computational services, data services, benchmarking etc.). 


Background information and description of research projects

This position is offered within the following projects:.

  • AgriFoof TEF is a TEF co-funded by the European Commission with the DigitalEurope Programme and the Ministry for Industry and MADE in Italy (MIMIT) with RRP funds. The mission of the project to empower innovators in the agrifood sector with customized tools for the validation of their AI and robotics solutions.  The DI Center is the coordinator of this project and offers TestBeforeInvest services to test and experiment innovative solutions to European  SMEs.
  • AI-MATTERS is a TEF co-funded by the European Commission with the DigitalEurope Programme and the Ministry for Industry and MADE in Italy (MIMIT) with RRP funds. The mission of the project is to validate latest technology solutions in AI and robotics with access to partners’ facilities and real-world manufacturing data, or learn how a new technology could be applied to address your interest – with potential financial aid.  The DI Center is a partner of this project and offers TestBeforeInvest services to test and experiment innovative solutions to European  SMEs.
  • InnovAction is a European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) with the Seal of Excellence(SoE), funded by the Ministry for Industry and MADE in Italy (MIMIT) with RRP funds. The mission of the project is to support the digital and ecological transformation of companies, improving their business, production processes, products, or services and becoming more competitive.  The DI Center is a partner of this project and offers TestBeforeInvest services to national  SMEs.
 

Job Description

The DI Center is searching for an Innovation Service Specialist that will orchestrate and drive the planning and execution of the services the TEFs and EDIH: will (i) contribute to the review and updating of the TEF service catalogue (https://dicenter.fbk.eu/services), collaborating with FBK technical staff and project consortium partners, ensuring that TEF services are market-ready and impactful; (ii) lead the process of providing and formalising the TEF with a robust and executable business model and ensure long-term sustainability.

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the Center Director, the internal Team working on the TEFs projects, the representatives of Italian TEF nodes, managing the activities of TEF service provision and deployment.

Since FBK is a research foundation, the right employee will be comfortable with change and will love bringing new ideas to the table, constructing strong and fruitful collaboration with SMEs and industries. 

The successful candidate is expected to support the ecosystem for the TEF business facilitating the relationships with the companies and the service provision process, and contributing to the following tasks:

  • defining/drafting of catalog service sheets;
  • drafting of technical documentation to support the provision of the service technical facilitation of the service definition process up to the delivery phase and drafting of the supporting bureaucratic documentation;
  • supporting the relations with the company from the choice to join TEF to the creation/evaluation of the service;
  • collecting and monitoring the service KPIs, their interpretation and support to Business Developers for business intelligence.

Depending on organizational needs, the selected candidate may also be involved in additional activities or projects within the Centre.

 

Job requirements

The ideal candidate must have the following requirements:

  • MSc in STEM;
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies (e.g., AI, Data Analytics, IoT, Robotics, space);
  • Knowledge and experience in R&D and in European projects;
  • Ability to convey simple and effective value propositions and messages;
  • Experience in working for research projects;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in Italian;
  • Language assessment according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): level of knowledge required. Knowledge of English will be verified during the interview on a technical or scientific topic and must be equal to or exceed level B2.   • Teamwork approach, good communication and relational skills;
  • Strong orientation to results, determination, flexibility and aptitude for problem-solving.
 

Furthermore, the following elements will be positively evaluated:

  • MBA in STEM;
  • Project Management skills;
  • Further specializations in related and/or complementary fields.

Selection process and assessment criteria

The Evaluating Committee will be appointed by the People Innovation for Research Director  at the end of the application deadline.  The recruiting process will be handled in accordance with the “Gender and generational equal opportunities, as well as the employment inclusion of people with disabilities in public contracts financed with the resources of the PNRR and PNCguidelines  and with the Foundation's Gender Equality PlanThe Committee may compile the short-list of the candidates admitted to the interview, remotely or in presence. The short-list shall be compiled based on the requirements set out in the call (contained in the requirements of the job description), with the support of the screening of CVs and any other required documents. Candidates with a minimum score will be admitted to the interview phase. Shortlisted candidates must do at least one interview with the Committee. 

In case of specific need, the Selection Committee can also meet remotely, by teleconference or videoconference, provided that all members can be identified and that they are able to follow and intervene in the discussion, as well as to receive, transmit and view documents. During the evaluation step, evaluation support tools such as tests or questionnaires may be used. Furthermore, group tests and/or practical tests may be administered.

Evaluation criteria 

The selection process includes two evaluation moments led by the Commission: the screening and the interview phase. The screening process will be based on the evaluation of the qualifications and expertise that the candidate expresses on the resume. A maximum of 40 points will be allocated to this assessment phase and only candidates obtaining at least 25 points will be admitted to the interview. The interview scores will be assigned to candidates by the Commission according to the following criteria: the presentation of their personal research profile; the knowledge about the scientific domain, the experience in working for research projects and the language skills. A maximum of 60 points will be allocated to this assessment phase. The interview is considered as “passed” if the applicant obtains at least 45 points. The final score will be used to generate the final suitability list for each job position.

Results of the selection process
