Thesis proposal: Model validation with MiL approach

The Centre for Sustainable Energy is looking for a young student interested in a thesis experience with the title "Model validation with MiL approach" in the field of Sustainable Energy.

This thesis proposal unlocks accurate models for fuel cells and electrolyzers, crucial for clean energy's future. Leveraging MIL, SIL, and HIL approaches, it delves into:
  • Developing high-fidelity dynamic models using cutting-edge tools;
  • Integrating models with control algorithms in simulated environments (SIL) for control performance assessment;
  • Coupling models with real hardware (HIL) for true-to-life validation under dynamic conditions.

Planned activities

The thesis evaluates:
  • Steady-state & transient performance against real-world data;
  • Control system response to load changes and disturbances;
  • Model sensitivity to key parameters' impact on performance.

The main outputs include:

  • Validated fuel cell/electrolyzer model for future optimization;
  • Comparative analysis of MIL, SIL, and HIL for informed methodology selection;
  • Recommendations for improved model development & validation in this critical field.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in master’s degree in energy Engineering, or equivalent;
  • Good knowledge on physics;
  • Good knowledge on modelling dynamic adn steaday state and optimization;
  • Basic programming skills.
