A Technologist in the field of energy communities: supporting and testing digital tools for enhancing the uptake of cross-sector and integrated digital services in the energy market

The Centre on Sustainable Energy (SE) supports the development of devices and methods for generating, storing, and distributing energy solutions with low environmental impact. It is done from the perspective of energy sustainability, systems and solutions that respect the environment and the quality of life, and solutions with a lower impact on health and environmental pollution levels. The ground for the Centre on "Sustainable Energy" is based on the Decarbonization targets, which will demand more flexibility of the energy system through new gas and power grids and using energy vectors and storage solutions as enablers for the broad penetration of renewables.

 

Job Description

The Center Sustainable Energy in its Area on Sustainable Territories is looking for a technologist specialised in the field of energy communities, who will support and test digital tools for enhancing the uptake of cross-sector and integrated digital services in the energy market.

The candidate will provide support to FBK-SE in both European and local projects. The main contribution will be in the European research project “CELINE" (HORIZON-CL5-2023-D3-03-04).

In the Italian Demonstrator of the Renewable Energy Community Green Land (Alpe Cimbra, Province of Trento), the specific CELINE contribution to be supported by the technologist position concerns integrated and interoperable data-driven services across multiple energy domains and data sectors, to be tested, such as: 

  • In the energy area, mapping local energy demands and productions, integrated and dynamic energy modelling for cost-optimized decarbonisation, and utilising ICT for “Smart Energy Community” management; 
  • Regarding security, detecting specific events that could threaten grid operation in relation to climatic conditions (storms, snow precipitation, landslides) monitoring satellite data; 
  • In the transport field, assessing public transport service, dynamic mobility planning, and eco-friendly mobility recommendations; 
  • In the tourism domain, monitoring and forecasting to inform energy and transport platforms, promote sustainable behavior incentives, and conduct zero-emission marketing; 
  • v)Increasing interoperability and data analytics capabilities to provide holistic service.
 

 

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

  • MSc in Energy or Electric Engineering or equivalent technical discipline
  • Strong know-how on energy community set-up, management and expansion
  • Solid technical skills on electrical grids design and operation
  • Solid technical skills on electrical grids markets
  • Solid technical skills on energy planning and modeling
  • Solid technical skills on development of data-driven energy services
  •  Ability to write reports and scientific publications
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, with a strong commitment to achieve assigned objectives
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English and Italian
  • Skills in problem solving
  • Good communication and relational skills
  • Self-motivation and result orientation
 

Furthermore, the following elements will be positively evaluated:

  • Expertise on business models in the field of energy communities
  • Expertise on design of participatory and co-design methodology and establishment and consolidation of local Energy Living Labs in Demonstrators
  • Expertise on policy recommendations in the field of energy communities

Type of contract: Fixed Term Contract 

Working hours: full time  

Gross annual salary: about € 36.200 plus objectives achievement bonus.

Start date: June 2024

Duration: 24 months
