Misunderstanding detection in the healthcare context

In this context, the Intelligent Digital Agents Unit focuses on the study and development of flexible technologies and prototypes of digital assistants in the sector of prevention and mental well-being.

Planned activities

The IDA Unit of the Digital Health and Well Being Center is looking for a young recent graduate interested in pursuing an internship experience in the detection of misunderstanding in the context of healthcare professionals-patients communication with qualitative analysis tools. The ideal candidate is a proactive and dynamic young person with good organizational and interpersonal skills, with a propensity for teamwork, motivated to undertake a training experience in an international context. 

The intern, working alongside the Research Unit staff, will mainly contribute to the development of the following activities: 

  • Analysis of doctor-patient communication with qualitative content analysis to detect misunderstanding;
  • Implementation of existing codebooks to identify misunderstanding in the healthcare context; 
  • Creation of a dataset to train and validate a Deep Learning model;
  • Experimental tests to assess the effectiveness of the proposed method;
  • The opportunity to join the team in other active and developing projects during the internship period and to gain experience in a dynamic and challenging environment such as FBK will also be offered.

Requirements

  • Possession of Master's degree in Philosophy, Sociology, or Anthropology;
  • Knowledge of major subjects related to qualitative content analysis, thematic analysis, and philosophy of language;
  • Fluent knowledge of written and spoken Italian and English (min. level B2);
  • Relational and teamwork skills;
  • Good adaptability, flexibility and initiative skills;
  • Computer skills in the use of MaxQDA or similar

Internship Information

  • Internship start date: first semester 2025
  • Internship experience duration: 6 months for extra-curricular internships 
  • Opportunity reserved for graduates with a Master's degree (for extra-curricular internships, the degree must not have been obtained more than 12 months ago)
  • The internship experience will take place at the Science and Technology Cluster at the Povo location
  • We offer support in finding accommodation at affiliated facilities, in the case of off-site candidates
  • We offer the possibility to use the internal canteen service
  • Possible recognition of participation allowance
