Internship in the field of “Deep Learning for Remote Sensing image time series”

In this context, the Remote Sensing for Digital Earth (RSDE) Research Unit of the Digital Society Center deals with the automatic analysis of remote sensing images for Earth Observation and space exploration, consistent with the Foundation's objectives.

Planned activities

The RSDE Research Unit of the Digital Society Center is looking for a young recent graduate interested in pursuing an internship experience in the analysis of remote sensing image time series using Deep Learning techniques for Earth Observation tasks. The ideal candidate is a proactive and dynamic young person with good organizational and interpersonal skills, with a propensity for teamwork, motivated to undertake a training experience in an international context. 

The intern, working alongside the Research Unit staff, will mainly contribute to the development of the following activities: 

  • Analysis of image time series, pre-processing and creation of a dataset to train and validate a Deep Learning model;
  • Design and implementation of a novel method based on Deep Learning for the image time series analysis;
  • Experimental tests to assess the effectiveness of the proposed method.
  • The opportunity to join the team in other active and developing projects during the internship period and to gain experience in a dynamic and challenging environment such as FBK will also be offered.

Requirements

  • Possession of Master's degree in Computer Science, data science, artificial intelligence, or Telecommunication engineering;
  • Knowledge of major subjects related to computer science and image processing;
  • Fluent knowledge of written and spoken Italian and English (min. level B2);
  • Relational and teamwork skills;
  • Good adaptability, flexibility and initiative skills;
  • Computer skills in the use of python, deep learning libraries (Tensorflow or PyTorch)

Internship information

  • Internship start date: first semester 2025
  • Internship experience duration: 6 months for extra-curricular internships 
  • Opportunity reserved for graduates with a Master's degree (for extra-curricular internships, the degree must not have been obtained more than 12 months ago)
  • The internship experience will take place at the Science and Technology Cluster at the Povo location
  • We offer support in finding accommodation at affiliated facilities, in the case of off-site candidates
  • We offer the possibility to use the internal canteen service
  • Possible recognition of participation allowance
