Two research positions in Software Systems Testing


The Software Engineering Research unit at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) conducts research in two strategic areas of software design and development, for which the available technologies are largely unsatisfactory: (1) Requirements engineering; (2) Code analysis and testing. The scientific challenges in the two areas deal with the management of software requirements, the automated generation of test cases and the detection of faults for high variability and evolving systems. Job Description

The research work concerns the development of novel model-based techniques and methodology for the efficient verification and validation of complex systems, such as software product lines and systems based on extended reality, in order to guarantee their correct functioning. The candidates are expected to carry out high quality research in line with the objectives of the Software Engineering research unit as well as the objectives of the European Horizon 2020 project iv4XR, which concerns the testing of extended reality based systems. Furthermore, the candidates are expected to actively participate in the writing of scientific articles.



The ideal candidates should have:


  • PhD degree in one of the following areas: software testing, formal methods, optimization, or related
  • Relevant experience in one or more of the following topics:
    • Model driven development
    • Automated test generation
    • Formal methods
    • Artificial intelligence
    • Software agents
  • Strong programming skills in Java, C/C++, Python
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to  work in a collaborative environment
  • Attitude to problem solving


Number of positions: 2

Type of contract: Fixed term contract (full time)

Start date: March 2020

Duration: 2 years (with possibility to extend the contract depending on availability of funding)

Gross annual salary: about € 39.500
