The FBK Centre for Materials and Microsystems (CMM) is an applied research centre that operates in the following scientific and technological areas: materials and interfaces, devices and microsystems, integrated systems. The CMM has extremely advanced technical know-how in applied materials science, as well as silicon-based microfabrication technologies. Micro Nano Facility MNF carries out R&D activities focused on the develop of technological process for the realization using the internal facility (info on https://mnf.fbk.eu/) of advanced radiation sensors.
The activity will be focused on the simulation, desing, fabrication and characterization of a x-ray imaging sensors optimized for soft X ray application based on Low Gain Avalanche Diode (LGAD).
This activity will be carried out in the framework of research collaboration between Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) and Paul Scheerr Institute (PSI).
The candidate is expected to follow the entire development flow, starting from TCAD simulations, to the design of the wafer layout and to take care of the electrical and functional characterization of the devices. The candidate will also participate to tests and measurements using X-rays in tight collaboration with the SLS Detectors Group of PSI.
The candidate will be the link for an optimized exchange of information between both laboratories (PSI and FBK) as well as the responsible for the follow-up of the progress of the technical objectives of the collaboration.
The work will be carried out mainly at FBK. During the duration of the contract, the candidate might be required to stay at PSI for some periods of time depending on the needs and evolution of the project as well as practical considerations.
The ideal candidate should have:
- PhD in Electronics, Physics or related fields or equivalent 3 years research experience;
- Good scientific background in the field of radiation detection;
- Good experience in silicon device testing and characterization;
- Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written);
- Strong teamwork attitude;
- Experience in Silicon device fabrication;
- Scientific publications relevant to the field of silicon radiation detectors and visiting;
- Scholarship or experience at international level;
- Experience in X-ray detection would be an advantage.

Gross annual salary: about 39.300 €
Start date: preferably from April 2019
