The 3DOM research unit of the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) of Trento (Italy) deals with metrology and geomatics research issues, developing innovative methodologies using data coming from terrestrial, UAV, aerial and satellite photogrammetry as well as terrestrial or airborne laser scanning.

The 3DOM unit is part of the Digital Industry Center of FBK which focuses its research on digital technologies for the manufacturing industry by creating innovative solutions for adaptive and autonomous systems, advanced perception, diagnostics and prediction systems. 

 

Job description

3DOM is looking for a researcher with good experience and knowledge in geomatics and data analytics for geospatial data. This includes the processing of images, orthoimages and point clouds with advanced machine and deep learning methods in order to extract information useful for mapping purposes. The successful candidate will conduct research being partially involved in the European projects USAGE (Aug 2022 – July 2025) and FEROX (Sep 2022 – Aug 2025). The candidate is expected to perform explorative and scientific engineering tasks on geospatial data, including software development.
 

Job requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Master in Geomatics, Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering;
  • Knowledge in data analytics with machine/deep learning methods;
  • Skills in programming and developing, including environments for machine learning applications (C/C++, Phyton, Java, C#, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.);
  • Ability to work and deliver in internationally funded research projects;
  • Experience in research institutes or R&D-oriented companies;
  • Oral and written proficiency in English;
  • Self-motivation and ability to complete tasks systematically;
  • Ability to work autonomously; 
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
 

Additional requirements

  • PhD in Geomatics, Computer Science or related fields;
  • Knowledge in 3D geometry, graphics and mathematics;
  • Scientific publications in international conferences and journals.
 

Employment

Type of contract: Fixed term contract

Work hours: full time

Gross annual salary: about  € 34.500

Start date: From Sept 2022

Duration: 2 years (the contract may be extended upon availability of further funding and where it is consistent with the Foundation’s policies).
